Secondary School Admission Test (SSAT)

Put the possibilities to the test. The SSAT is your first step toward independent school success. Since 1957, students have used the SSAT to showcase their verbal, math, and reading skills to admissions professionals. It’s one important component of a complete application process, and it helps both schools and students ensure they find the best match.

Advanced Placement (AP)

College Board is the nation’s largest college-going organization, helping millions of students navigate the transition from high school to college each year through programs like the SAT, AP, and BigFuture.

American College Test (ACT)

The ACT Center for Equity in Learning (CEL) supports research that focuses on closing gaps in equity and achievement.Our goal is to produce actionable evidence to guide thought leadership, and inform changes in policy and practice, that will lead to improved learning and achievement.

PSAT/NMSQT

The PSAT/NMSQT is offered in the fall and the PSAT 10 is offered in the spring.

AMC 10/12

The AMC 10 and AMC 12 are both 25-question, 75-minute, multiple choice examinations in high school mathematics designed to promote the development and enhancement of problem-solving skills. The AMC 10 is for students in 10th grade and below, and covers the high school curriculum up to 10th grade. Students in grade 10 or below and under 17.5 years of age on the day of the contest can take the AMC 10. The AMC 12 covers the entire high school curriculum including trigonometry, advanced algebra, and advanced geometry, but excluding calculus. Students in grade 12 or below and under 19.5 years of age on the day of the contest can take the AMC 12.

National Biology Competition

 

Unfortunately, due to the public health emergency that continues under the COVID-19 pandemic, we have decided to cancel the 2021 U of T National Biology Competition.

Chem 13/Avogadro

Chemistry high school students and teachers, this is an opportunity to test your chemistry skills and knowledge with other students and high schools across Canada and worldwide. The Chem 13 News and Avogadro Exams are challenging online exams written by more than 6000 grade 11 and 12 Chemistry high school students every May, and consist of 40 multiple choice questions written in a 75 minute exam period.

Sir Isaac Newton Exam

The Sir Isaac Newton (SIN) exam is a test of high school physics and is offered by the Department of Physics & Astronomy at the University of Waterloo to encourage the teaching of physics. The exam, although challenging, is meant to be refreshing and fun. Political and other topical humour have marked SIN exams for years. Students participate from across Canada, the USA and abroad. Students should approach their physics teacher or guidance counsellor who will have access to all the details (or they can get the details by visiting this web site). British Physics Olympiad (BPhO)

Why take part? The British Physics Olympiad (BPhO) aims to encourage the study of Physics and recognise excellence in young physicists through ten annual Physics and Astronomy & Astrophysics competitions. The competitions are designed to test understanding and problem solving skills and are open to able young physicists in school years 11-13 (GCSE to A2/IB/Highers or equivalent). University of Waterloo CEMC

While most contest registrations should come from schools, we do allow home schooled students and remote learners to register individually. Students who finished school last term or semester should register through that school.
